Anime film fans in Japan now have the chance to see the first 3 Rebuild of Evangelion films in 4D!

Studio khara have announced that on the first three Fridays of December, select MX4D and 4DX cinemas will be showing the Rebuild of Evangelion films in 4D. They’ve released the following trailer to promote these screening which sadly, due to the limitations of YouTube, can only be viewed in 2D.

4D cinema aims to provide a totally immersive environment, where the viewer can “feel” the action on the screen via the use of built-in motion and effects within their seats and theatre area around them. Special effects used include vibration, smoke, wind, and water spray. The combination of effects change scene by scene with the aim of giving the viewer a sense that they are in the world of the film.

The current schedule for Evangelion 4D viewings is as follows:

  • Friday 4th December – “Evangelion New Theatrical Version: Introduction 4D Version” (Evangelion 1.11 – You Are (Not) Alone)
  • Friday 12th December ~ “Evangelion New Theatrical Version ” Theatrical version: Destruction 4D version” (Evangelion 2.22 – You Can (Not) Advance)
  • Friday 18th December ~” Evangelion New Theatrical Version: Q 4D version” (Evangelion 3.33 – You Can (Not) Redo)
